Gig & Denise,
co-owners of Elmhurst Outdoors, are both retired teachers and outdoor educators with over 60 years of combined experience. They have won awards for woodlot management, forest stewardship, education and canoeing, and have national certification in canoeing, kayaking and cross country skiing .
Gig & Denise maintain a strong commitment to outdoor education and recreation for children and families in the community.

Our History ….
We began our maple syrup operation in the spring of 1995 with the intent of offering programs for school groups and the general public. Since then our business has grown to include a “walk through time” interpretive walk and a comfortable lodge, allowing us to top off the maple experience with homemade pancakes and maple syrup.
Our ski business has grown over the years as well. We started out with an “on your honour” system of payment and about 4 kms of trails. Presently, we offer 12 kms of groomed ski trails, 10 kms of snowshoe trails, equipment rentals, a lodge to warm up in and delicious hot meals on the weekends. Throughout the winter we host Moonlight Snowshoe Hikes and Snowshoe & Vittles events so visitors can get outside and bathe in the sights and sounds of nature around us. We began grooming skate ski trail in addition to the classic trails in 2011. In 2013, new skiers were given the opportunity to participate in a Learn to Ski program in both classic and skate skiing. In 2016, we added a shooting range to accommodate those who are interested in biathlon.
In 1999, we included fall programs: Grade 4 Healthy Habitats, Grade 3 Watch It Grow and High School Outdoor Pursuits. These programs were developed based on outcomes in the NB Science and Phys. Ed. curricula.
We continue to explore ways to expand our programs and facilities to ensure we meet the ever increasing demand for quality outdoor educational and recreational experiences. COMING SOON … an off-grid tiny cottage for those who would like to enjoy the serenity of the countryside overnight.
